Did you know it’s not possible to ‘sit’ in your heart, breathe all of that love in and listen to your limiting beliefs at the same time? It really just isn’t possible.
How often do we actually bring our awareness to our heart centre? How often do we listen to what our hearts have to say? In such a fast paced society we’re almost programmed to just go, go, go. When we’re running around doing our daily activities do we stop and breathe into them? Do we allow ourselves to ask how it makes us feel? Do we stop, take a deep breath and ask ‘What do I need right now?’Screen Shot 2014-07-08 at 12.11.42 PM
Iyanla Vanzant is one of my all time favourite authors, Reverend and Life Coaches. I’ve read many of her books and follow her work religiously – I always sit in awe of her awareness and devotion to help others.
In one of her life coaching sessions that was aired on TV she asked a question that stopped me in my tracks.
If your heart had a voice Beloved, what would it say?
The first time I heard these words I actually stared to cry. I realized it had been a long time since I’ve given my heart a voice. I was too busy listening and feeding into all of the B.S. that my head was saying. I was experiencing limiting beliefs as bullies on a playground, pushing and moving me, feeling as though I had no control. I was neglecting the fact that I could choose between the nails-on-chalkboard sound of my limiting beliefs or the harmony inside of my heart. I let the habits and patterns of my limiting beliefs run most of my days, pushing me to try harder- not because I wanted to but because I had prove my worth to the world.
After gaining some composure I asked myself what is my heart saying? The answer: ‘Hello- it’s been a while, but I’ve been here the whole time, and I love you, I nurture you, I cherish you, and I will never leave you.’
Who doesn’t want to hear that?!
With this awareness I make my decisions and choices (mostly) from the love in my heart. I listen to what my heart is speaking to me. I have moments and days where the negative thoughts in my head still run the show, I am human after all. But I always remember that I have a choice! I then allow my heart to have a voice…and I listen with wonder, curiosity and gratitude.
Bringing your awareness into your heart will allow limiting beliefs to drift away in that moment. Sure, they may come back, but wouldn’t it be truly awesome if we lived in the love from our hearts more often?
When was the last time you placed your ear to your heartbeat? When was the last time your heart had a voice?
So, today right here and now I have one question for you: If your heart had a voice Beloved, what would it say?
Breathe, listen, and embrace.
