Valentines Day and your Authentic Self

by | Feb 14, 2014 | Meditation

Happy Valentines Day!! Is it possible to lose your authentic Self to this ‘Hallmark Holiday’?

I have to tell you that 2 years ago on Valentines Day I was waiting, expecting, and hoping (Oh how I was hoping) that Daryl would ask me to marry him.

And I can’t even begin to explain to you the feeling I had the next morning when I woke up and realized that the biggest ‘love’ day in North America had come and gone and I wasn’t sporting any bling-bling on my left hand.

I was devastated! I have to be honest with you (because who would I be if not honest with YOU?) I was so devastated that I cancelled my clients that day- I couldn’t bare to see or talk to anyone. I was in no shape to offer advice, because let’s face it- my worst nightmare was coming true: the self-limiting beliefs of ‘no one will ever love you, you’re not good enough’ were starting to become my reality.

I was hurt, I was in pain, and I was pissed off!

So who was I mad at? Daryl? The love of my life? Yes! Actually – NO!

What I came to realize (way later) was that I was looking for someone else to tell me how awesome I was! I was expecting a beautiful ring to make me feel complete. I wanted a commitment from someone else to make, create, and sustain happiness with me. These were my reasons for being angry.

A ring, I don’t care how many carats it is, can not make you feel complete and happy if you don’t already encompass that within yourself.

I let my self-limiting beliefs take something beautiful, our relationship, and turn it into something ugly. I was allowing the limiting belief of ‘ no one will ever love you’ to be a self fulfilling prophecy! If I couldn’t be my authentic Self, if I couldn’t let my true Soul shine then why would anyone love me?

You are your most attractive when you are REAL and AUTHENTIC!!

I decided that I wouldn’t again allow this lovely ‘holiday’ such as Valentines, or my self-limiting beliefs to ruin my relationship with Daryl and most of all I wouldn’t let it ruin my relationship with myself!

I was worth more than that… so much more than any damn ring!

And let me tell you – the day that Daryl did propose to me I was already complete, whole, happy, and I felt loved because of the work I had done within myself, not because of anyone else, and certainly not because of my beautiful ring.

So no matter what day it is- always look within for love!
